Graduate Nurse Program (RN) 2021
TPPP for Newly Registered Nurses

 

St Andrew's offers a Graduate Nurse Program for newly Registered General Nurses.  

The Program gives graduates the opportunity to develop all the clinical and organisational skills needed for a successful career in health care.

St Andrew's offers its Graduate Nurses:

Transition to Professional Practice

  • The program is 52 weeks.
  • Starting in February or March 2021
  • Commences with a 5-day comprehensive hospital and area orientation
  • Learning is enhanced through 5 in-house study days or equivalent
  • Accrued annual leave can be taken throughout the year
  • Contracted hours are 52.5 - 60 hours per fortnight with the ability to work extra shifts up to Full-Time
  • Continued employment post GNP year is considered. 

Aims of the Program:

To provide the graduate with:

  • opportunities to consolidate and integrate nursing knowledge into practice
  • assistance to during the transition from Novice to Advanced Beginner
  • a supportive environment that promotes lifelong professional development
  • supportive preceptors and clinical practitioners
  • competency based performance review systems
  • an environment committed to adult learning principles
  • clinical experience appropriate to the level of competency
  • an understanding of the quality improvement process and influencing change

Further more, each graduate’s program will be individually structured to accommodate his or her interest in a specific clinical area.

 

To successfully gain a place at St Andrew's, graduates will need to demonstrate that they have the ability to:

  • Provide exemplary customer service to everyone they come in contact with
  • Work as a team and cooperate fully with all staff members
  • Constantly strive to improve both themselves and the workplace
  • Apply an excellent knowledge base to the clinical setting
  • Demonstrate safe person-centred care at all times

Clinical Experience:

Graduates undertake two 6 month rotations in the following wards:

  • 2nd Floor: General Surgery, Urology (+Robotics) and Colorectal Surgery
  • 3rd Floor: Oncology, Breast Surgery, Gynaecology, Plastics
  • 4th Floor: Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Spinal, Vascular, ENT, Gynaecology
  • CCU: Intensive Care & High Dependency
  • Cardiac Unit: Coronary Care and Cardiac Ward

Graduates undertake a full year placement in one of the following areas:

  • Theatre (scrub/scout)  or
  • Anesthetics & Recovery  or
  • Procedural Suite/DOSA

  • Further documents to support your application such as a CV, placement reports and current Working with Children Check (or DCSI child-related employment screen) will be requested at a later stage, following your initial application. These will be uploaded into a dropbox via a link emailed to applicants.

Located on the edge of Adelaide's CBD adjacent to the beautiful South Eastern Park Land, St Andrew's is the largest independent private Hospital in Australia, with 30,000 procedures being performed each year. Our patients are admitted electively or via our Emergency Service. Our 12 Theatres, Procedure Rooms and our Angiography Suite are supported by an Intensive Care Unit, High Dependency Unit and Cardiac Unit.
